Movie Review: Pannaiyarum Padminiyum

  A Car is always a guy thing. Ever since birth, boys develop an unconditional "Love for Cars". It should be fair and an obvious fact if I say that many of the guys childhood days would have been made the happiest with a single remote control car as a gift. We guys would have had a feel of controlling the whole world when we had a remote car. Throughout adulthood, boys continue to obsess about cars. They cannot stop talking about the features, shape, accessories, and safety mechanisms. Soon the four-wheel machine becomes a passion and a symbol of unconditional love for all the boys out there including me.



Plot:

 Pannaiyarum Padminiyum is one such fairy tale which revolves around the vintage premier padmini and two people who develop an unconditional love for the car. One is the Pannaiyar who is a Good Samaritan or a philanthropist who helps the needy in the town as and when they come to him for help and the other one  is the driver Murugesan who is the only one in the entire town who knows how to drive a four wheeler. Pannaiyar is so very generous that he gives away whatever his married daughter asks for. 


There comes in a situation where Pannaiyar becomes very attached to the vintage car in such a way it has become an integral part and parcel of Pannaiyar and his family. The car even becomes a symbol of love between Pannaiyar and his wife, in fact it transforms into Pannaiyar‘s second love only after his wife Chelammal. Then there comes an impasse or a deadlock when pannaiyar’s beloved daughter asks for his beloved car. He gives away the car to his daughter despite the love he had for it. Does Pannaiyar get back his lost love? Does he reunite with his Padmini is what the rest of the plot revolves.



The Pannaiyarum Padminiyum Factors:

A Special Kudos to the debutant director Arun Kumar who has beautifully narrated and elaborated his short film. Jayaprakash has donned the role of Pannaiyar immaculately to perfection. He has just lived as Pannaiyar. Vijay Sethupathy was as usual at his very best. He doesn’t need a special mention here. He was at his laudable best as always. But it was JP and Thulasi (Pannaiyar and Chelammal) who swept us off the feat with their acting skills. Kana kaanum kaalangal fame “Balasaravanan “has done justice to his role.



I would rather say the movie has 3 heroes Jaya Prakash, Vijay Sethupathy and last but not the least it is the Music director “Justin Prabhakaran”.  Justin has been instrumental is taking the drama to a whole new level. The opening song “Enga Ooru Vandi” shall stand as a testament to his skills. I can even say, it is that song which binds us with the movie and make us personify the car as a character. Justin Prabhakaran’s BG score contributed to more than half of the emotional quotient and the director’s touch in the movie. Aishwarya as Malar did a pretty decent job. The casting and the characterization were aesthetically pleasing and were too good to resist in the entire movie that they all would leave an indelible impact in us at least for a day or two after you see the movie. Gokul Benoy’s camera was visually appealing and pleasing. In spite of Sreekar Prasad’s editing, the length of movie was too big to be dealt with, but that didn’t make our ride along with Pannaiyar and Murugesan, in the vintage Padmini a bumpy one. It was still a very pleasant ride in the vintage padmini.

Verdict:

A Beautiful nostalgic ride in the vintage Premier Padmini worth riding more than once with your family, if internationalized it is sure to fetch laurels and accolades.
